FANLISTING?

What is a fanlisting? It's pretty much what it sounds like; it's a list of fans of a subject, all listed in one place. It's an ingenious way of gathering the fans of a specific subject. The concept was brainstormed by TheFanlistings.Org, so if you'd like more information, I recommend visiting either them or AnimeFanlistings.Org, who specialise in anime and manga-related subjects. This FL is listed at TFL in their Games section and AnimeFanlistings.Org in their Characters section.

STAR OCEAN?

Star Ocean: 'Til the End of Time is sometimes known as Star Ocean III, due to its status as the third game in the Star Ocean series. Each game stars a completely different set of characters; SOIII revolves around a young man named Fayt Leingod, who, while on a vacation to Hyda IV (a resort planet) with his parents and his good friend Sophia, is pulled into a growing war between alliances, and eventually becomes crucially involved in the battle for the universe itself. Star Ocean differs to many other RPGs in the way that it is set in a futuristic world, involving space travel and extremely advanced machinery, whereas other RPGs like the Final Fantasy series are more often in fantasy or pseudo-modern settings.

SOPHIA?

Sophia is one of the main females from Star Ocean: 'Til the End of Time. (Either she or Maria could be considered to be the heroine of the game, although any of the four female characters can be a love interest for Fayt.) Sophia is seventeen years old, a high school student and childhood friend of Fayt, the protagonist. There are hints of a romantic relationship between them, but it's equally easy to ignore this; due to Star Ocean's affection points system, the romantic subplot is generally malleable. A cheerful and bright character, Sophia is very much a normal girl. She uses staffs in battle and is particularly skilled at the Item Creation minigame, particularly Cooking and Alchemy. She's virtually required to get many of the better items.

Sophia is briefly in your party during the first disc, although only for a few battles. In the second disc, she joins your party permanently, only briefly leaving (for three battles) before rejoining. I find Sophia to be the best or second best available party member, due to the fact that she's capable of dealing MP damage with just her physical attacks. She also has some of the most powerful magic, and can be a pretty good heavy hitter if you customise her weaponry right. (I tend to control her and have a team of Sophia-Albel-Fayt or Sophia-Albel-Peppita.) Unfortunately, when you do get Sophia, she has the dubious honour of being on level 1, and is the second last party member to join you on this level. (Peppita being the last.) Fortunately, Sophia's low level can be a godsend, as levelling her up lets you get the 'gained five levels in one battle' and so on battle trophies. I find the best place to train Sophia is the Urssa Lava Caves with a strong bonus gauge; keep her out of your party altogether until then, as you have to control her while training her. More information for Sophia in battle is here.

Sophia is, above all, a nice person. She's a sweet soul, although she gets very frustrated at Fayt at times, but only in the way that close friends do. She's also quite timid; she has a healthy awareness of danger and hates fighting unless she has to. On the flipside, she takes up arms without even being asked and is happy to join the party, although one of her trademark battle cries is "I'm scared!". Sophia is also a very caring person; when you get your fifth member (either Nel, Albel or Roger), she rushes to their aid despite not really knowing them. She's instinctively a protective and nurturing person, and is by far the most traditionally feminine member of the main group. While she is young, and does act her age, she is also very intelligent and mature. She accepts everything that's thrown at her with remarkable calmness; in some cases, better than people who are her seniors by years.

WHY?

Well, to put it simply, I like her character. I think Sophia's really underappreciated as far as the Star Ocean fandom goes, and I wanted to show my support as a fan. She's a cute character, she's good in battle, she has good relations with the other main characters, what's not to like?
